2009 Awards

Each year, outstanding achievements by our students are recognized in many ways. Many awards have been established to honour the lives of teachers or students, and are much sought-after. The major awards and their recipients for the 2008-2009 school year are recorded below:

Senior Awards

Valedictorian: Indira Laothamatas. This award goes to the senior with the highest GPA in grades 11 and 12.

Salutatorian: Tenzing Namtse Lama. This award goes to the senior with the second highest GPA in grades 11 and 12.

Best All-Round Student Award: Rithambhra Garg. Since 1929, this award has been given to the senior student who best displays scholarship, effort, leadership, participation in extracurricular activities, personal traits, cooperation with the school community, and contribution to residence life at Woodstock. The award's recipient is voted for by the senior class and the staff.

Student Government Award: Rithambhra Garg, Montazerul Mehdi .

Pratap Chatterjee Memorial Science Award: Rithambhra Garg.

Music Awards:

     Poad Music Shield: Tomo Miura, Eri Takeuchi.

Other Major Awards

Centennial Shield: Grade 9 (Class of 2012).

Jimmy Cassinath Memorial Awards:

     Drama: Shubhashish Sanjay Bhutiani.

     Writing: Amrita Kaur Dhillon.

     Art: Jonathan Spaldan Paljor.

These prizes were first awarded in 1960 from a fund established by his father in memory of Jimmy Cassinath, a member of the class of 1958. Jimmy came to WS in 1951 and died of cancer in London in 1958. These awards are given in recognition of those students with creative ability in writing, art, and drama - areas Jimmy excelled and delighted in. A candidate's work of at least one full year is judged. No one student may receive more than one Cassinath Award in a given year.
