The Taming of the Shrew
High school students presented variations on the popular Shakespeare drama Taming of the Shrew from Parker Hall's stage the third weekend in November to full houses for both performance nights. Through use of Bollywood dance numbers, traditional Indian dress and some Hindi language jokes, students and director Mr. Ben MacKenzie hit on a successful medium between the traditional, academic drama and the fun-loving, toe tapping crowd pleaser. High school SAGE junior Caity Martin played the smiling, difficult-to-hate shrew Katharina, while Shubhashish Bhutiani charmed crowds as love interest Petruchio.
Adding to the spectacle was a well-designed stage, replete with sometimes complicated scene changes during breaks in the play by calmly competent stage crew led by Shael Joon, Misha Garg, Sonam Yangchen and Amol Singh. At one point, a wood-constructed yellow and green auto rickshaw was wheeled center stage, remaining there to serve as the central set design for its scene. Woodstock thanks and congratulates all the student actors, student crew and staff who worked hard in putting together this exceptional production. Bravo!
