Gym Update - August 2009

Construction and development of the much-awaited gymnasium is nearly complete. The state-of-the-art gym will officially be opened on September 18th, 2009, and students and staff alike are waiting anxiously for the unveiling of this major project.

The official groundbreaking of the gym took place on August 15th (Indian Independence Day), 2008, when the gym was rededicated and work began.

Some of the facilities that the gym will offer will include a full court basketball court with rollaway bleachers, volleyball facility on the court, a mini basketball court, squash court, a large climbing wall room, fitness gym, table-tennis room, equipment store, new administrative offices, changing rooms and toilets (including toilets for visiting teams), as well as two classrooms to teach theory or watch game tapes.

Head of the Physical Education department Ajay Mark expressed his enthusiasm for the near-completed project. "The gym is going to have a lot of useful facilities," Mark said, "We will now be hoping to increase the number of staff in the department to four people to be able to serve our needs."

According to Mark, the the department of Physical Education will be collaborating with the Outdoor Education department for the use of the rock-climbing wall.

Steve Luukkonen, who is a new staff member in the PE department, also said that he was very excited to see the new gym. "It is a privilege to see this great gym open during my first semester here in Woodstock," he added.
