Jazz And More - a student review from Pathways School
On Saturday, March 31 2007, a few other Pathways students and I with some teachers went to Delhi to watch a concert performed by Woodstock's music department. It was about an hour's journey reaching there, getting pizza and coke on the way (yummy!). We then reached the theatre. It was beautifully set out. We all sat down and waited for the show to start. There was an MC who spoke first, and then the concert began! First, the jazz band played. A band filled with trumpets, trombones, saxophones, you name it! Then the chamber choir performed followed by the Indian instrumentalists. That was interesting as we learnt a few new classical Indian instruments such as the santoor which is like a xylophone, except you beat on strings instead of metal.
That was then followed by the string group. There both a senior and faculty strings group filled with the violin, cello and even the double bass, the biggest instrument in the string group. The principal of Woodstock also played the violin and was involved in the faculty string group who played an amazing piece written by one of the music teachers in Woodstock. The jazz band then ended the concert with a fabulous performance.
Overall this concert was really one of the best concerts I have seen. It was a mixture of all types of music (from Indian all the way to Jazz) all put into one concert. One thing I liked was that it wasn't only old and classical music played, there were many new and modern songs played as well which made it even more exciting and enjoyable. It was very well organized and put together. We all enjoyed it thoroughly and we would like to thank the music department for organizing this trip.
