Easter break: to the source of the Yamuna
There are a lot of staff blogs, and we thought that people might like a taste of one of them. Pete Wildman, Communications Manager, has been writing about his experiences in India for seven years, and this entry is about a trip to Yamunotri. Here's an extract. Click here to read the entire story.
Pilgrimage is an important part of Hinduism, and Uttarakhand has four of the most important destinations, known as the "Char Dham". We have already been to one, Gangotri (although a blizzard prevented us from reaching the actual source of the Ganges at the Gaumukh glacier); this Easter we decided it was time to go for Yamunotri, source of the other great north Indian river, the Yamuna. Not as pilgrims, of course, other than as those in search of beautiful countryside and significant destinations.
