Jazz Jam
This is a traditional event which is the culmination of a year's hard work for the jazz musicians - and teacher Megan Hagberg. We did break with tradition in one way this year, though - the weather held out, and we did not have to make a last-minute transfer to Parker Hall. the Quad was warm, colourful and lively, and the grade 10 students serving the food were efficient and friendly: all in all, the ingredients for a good night out.
The musicians all played their part. A well-rehearsed band played a mix of old favourites with a good leaven of new material. From the Latin jazz of "Mas Que Nada" to the adaptations of blues and funk classics such as "Gimme some lovin'", there was plenty of variety. Grade 11 students also contributed a couple of special vocal items, including a great version of the jazz classic "Moanin'". variety was provided by the staff band, with two sets of loud and uncompromising blues, and a staff trio, "Circle", who payed a short acoustic set of mainly traditional blues and gospel tunes from their newly-released CD.
