Worldwide Woodstock Day celebrations

Although Woodstock itself is over 156 years old, our alumni association, WOSA, turns 100 years old in 2011. The Development and Alumni Relations Office at Woodstock School will be planning a special homecoming celebration in October of 2011 to mark the centenary of the Woodstock Old Students Association.

Since October 2011 is the 100th anniversary of our global community, we decided to hold an awareness and engagement campaign every October leading up to that event. That's why we designated October 24th, 2009 as our first annual "Worldwide Woodstock Day." We had no idea how successful it would be.

Over 70 gatherings and gestures from all corners of the globe were formally registered on our WWD map at http://www.communitywalk.com/WWD WWD participants were asked to meet for a meal, or do something special in honor of WOSA during that 24 hour period. Our motto became, "Let's celebrate the bonds that connect us, despite the distances that separate us." At the end of the day, we were flooded with photos, emails, recordings and even a few video clips.

Take a moment to visit our WWD blog at http://woodstock.posterous.com/ where we have posted dozens of photos, songs, reports and other media sent to us from around the globe from gatherings taking place on October 24, 2009. You can also visit our YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/woodstockschool to watch the special new film we created for WWD entitled "Woodstock School: A Day in Our Lives." Although no day at Woodstock can be considered typical, the film takes you around campus and around the clock to see what happens during one 24 hour period throughout the school.

The next Worldwide Woodstock Day has been scheduled for Saturday, October 23rd 2010. Why not plan something in your neck of the woods? To participate simply contact Chris Starr at chrisstarr@woodstock.ac.in.
