Top Tibba
At 8560 feet, Top Tibba is the high point of the ridge between Mussoorie and Dhanolti. The approach from the southwest is a steep climb from Tehri Road starting about 1.7 km east of Suakholi near Jhalki. Jhalki is a region more than a village, with houses and farms spread over a considerable area and no distinct center along Tehri Road. The route to Top Tibba is a well-established trail heading up the southwest slope with numerous switchbacks.
While the south slope of Top Tibba is nearly treeless because of farming and grazing, the north slope is forested. Once the trail reaches the ridgeline, the ascent is more gradual, spending most of the time on the south slope with only one short segment on the north side. At junctions, always select the higher trail.
At about 8300 feet, leave the established trail and make your way up the steep grassy slope to the actual ridge top. Here you can pick up a faint path that follows the crest all the way to the well-marked summit. Unfortunately, the view from the summit to the north is obscured by the trees. But the views to the east, south, and west are spectacular, especially on a clear day.
Top Tibba has farms nearly to the summit, so there are numerous paths and ways back to Tehri Road. The route on the map descends first eastward down the summit ridge, past one farm, and then steeply southward down a small trail that descends into a farmer's terraced fields and ends up at the farmhouse (beware of dogs). After the farmhouse, the trail descends steeply to a saddle in the ridge. From the saddle, the descent is through a beautiful pine forest until coming to a very broad but lightly-used trail that parallels Tehri Road. Follow the broad trail westward. At the point, either cut down to Tehri Road or continue on the broad trail. This longer way back adds about 2 km to the trip back.
An even longer way back is to continue to follow the summit ridge trail eastward until it returns to Tehri Road near Buraskhanda. Then follow Tehri Road back to the starting point or catch a bus or jeep.
