11 Dec Dedication Of Building Site For Primary School At Dunda

Director of Community Engagement, Sanjaya Mark, updates us on the Dunda project.

We have finally received the necessary official government approval for the building of the primary school at Dunda for children in ECP-Grade 5 who live at Dunda and Nikurchi!  We are grateful to Shri Dyal Singh Ghosain, uncle of the present Pradhan (village head) of Dunda, for donating about a nali of his land for the building. The proposal is for building three classrooms, three toilets and a large multipurpose hall.

Yesterday Apurv Kaushik, Lachlan Wild, Zachary Zwisky, Kelzang Dema and Prasiddhi Shrestha who are the student project manager, Board member Rev. Anita Templeton, Woodstock staff members Mr. Sanjeev Puri, Mr. Shailesh Garg, Ms. Karen Tamminen and Mrs. Marla Dunn, along with Woodstock’s Director of Community Engagement,  Sanjaya Mark, organised a ground breaking ceremony.  There was great excitement as architect Magali Rastogi (Woodstock Class of 1989) presented the first (draft) drawing of the plan to the elders of the two villages and explaned it to the youngest children as well. Everyone present at the site joined Rev. Templeton in a prayer of thanksgiving and a request for blessings on the project.  The villagers enjoyed the fresh chocolate pastries, samosas and namkeen supplied by Woodstock while the Woodstock team welcomed the hot tea served by the villagers!

The next stage in this project will start in February after Woodstock students return from their winter break.
