Woodstock typically has 500 students in total. It varies according to age and subject, but it is usually between ten and twenty students per class.

This varies from year to year. Recent students represent countries including: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Somaliland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tibet, UK, USA, Vietnam, Yemen.

In 1959 Woodstock was the first school in Asia to be accredited by the US Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. For more than sixty years, Woodstock students have received a diploma that enables them to enter colleges and universities in the US and elsewhere. In 2007 Woodstock was again the first school in Asia to be awarded the MSA’s new International Credential, a mark for which our programme meets the stringent criteria for a global style and quality of education. Our most recent re-accreditation was in 2019.

Woodstock School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP)*. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Woodstock School believes is important for our students. Following a phased implementation approach, Woodstock started offering the IB’s Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Grades 6-8 in July 2017. Woodstock received official certification by the IB in May 2019. The Woodstock Class of 2021 will be the first cohort of students to graduate with both the American High School Diploma and the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Woodstock is a Council of International Schools (CIS) accredited school. CIS is a global membership community working collaboratively to shape international education through professional services to schools, higher education institutions, and individuals. Its members include many of the best international schools around the world. Woodstock was first accredited by the CIS in February 2019.

Woodstock students learn and grow in their musicianship through our classroom music courses, performance ensembles and private instruction. Student involvement in band, orchestra, choir, Indian music and private instruction is subject to a placement audition.

This audition allows the music faculty the opportunity to determine which instrument and ensemble would best suit a student’s talents and schedule. Classroom music courses, which help to build a student’s knowledge of music, are compulsory from ECP to Grade 8, and optional courses, such as choir, are available for Grades 7 through 12.

Private instruction is highly competitive and is subject to availability. Lessons are offered first to returning students, then to new students with prior learning, then to beginning students.

Disciplines offered: Western Classical Guitar, Stringed Instruments, Singing, Piano, Band, Indian Classical and Classroom Music.

Students are offered a range of second languages, including French, Spanish and Hindi. There is also support for mother tongue languages including Korean.

For students needing support with English, we offer a full English for Speakers of other Languages (ESL) programme.

Woodstock School has an incredibly high retention rate for its students. This is exciting for us, as it allows for our students to form life-long bonds with their classmates and long-term staff.  It also creates an environment where the student has time to fully embrace the Woodstock School educational philosophy.

As with any international school, there is a mix of longer-serving staff and others who spend just two to four years. The school is committed to encouraging the majority of staff to stay for a minimum of five or six years, and our salary, benefit and professional development policies are geared towards that end.

Basketball, table tennis, badminton, rock climbing, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, cricket, cross-country, road running, field hockey, personal fitness, football (soccer), squash and volleyball.

Woodstock students have a number of opportunities to interact with students from other schools in and around Mussoorie, across India and internationally. Inter-school sports, dramatics and other events are held periodically, such as MUN.

Woodstock School has a dedicated Health Centre, run by a professional team of healthcare professionals. During term time, the Health Centre provides round the clock care to our students and other community members. The Health Centre is equipped to deal with many of the ailments and minor injuries that are part and parcel of school life. Our Health Centre includes discrete Covid-19 isolation and treatment wards. Combined with our in-house medical expertise and equipment, We believe this means we are well placed to provide on-campus treatment for Covid-19 cases, should the need arise.
